A candidate has entered the race for City Council this October. 

Matt Dell, president of the South Jubilee Neighbourhood Association, is vying for a councillor position, and announced the beginning of his campaign yesterday in downtown Victoria. 

“I want to tackle the affordability crisis, strengthen our communities, and invest in the city’s future. I’m ready to listen, work hard, and build a better Victoria,” he said in a statement.

Dell said his first priority will be to tackle the affordability and housing crisis by expanding public amenities and infrastructure such as transit and public libraries, and by building homes and supporting local businesses.

He added that investing in the city’s future is a “critical task,” and we need more parks, green spaces and recreation facilities. 

He suggested rebuilding the Crystal Pool and Centennial Square.

“I’m committed to strengthening our communities in Victoria. We can do this by building neighbourhoods that are walkable, safe, and accessible, supporting more community events, markets and festivals, and investing in arts and culture,” he said.

“Finally, we need to take a pragmatic and responsible approach to governance, and build a more positive civil discourse at City Hall. There is so much that we agree on. I'm committed to doing a better job of listening to and working with residents.”
