Who knew chicken nuggets would be one of the top trending topics on Twitter this year?

Canadian Twitter users went nuts for #NuggsforCarter, the hashtag that went viral after Carter Wilkerson set out to get 18 million retweets so Wendy’s would give him a year of free chicken nuggets.

Carter’s was the most retweeted tweet by Canadian users this year, according to Twitter’s year in review. Justin Trudeau, on the other hand, was the most retweeted Canadian user. 

In 2017, Trudeau lead the way for most mentions, #GoHabsGo was the most popular hashtag and, with 1.8 million mentions, #Canada150 was a massive topic all year long.

The passing of Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie left thousands of Canadians heartbroken, and more than 300,000 tweets about Downie were sent within 48 hours of his death in October.
