(UPDATE: July 19th @ 8:10 a.m.) – Highway 1 has fully reopened at Cache Creek.

The road had been closed since the Ashcroft Reserve Wildfire, now the Elephant Hill Wildfire, began on July 7th.

(UPDATE: July 18th @ 3:30 p.m.) – The evacuation order for the Village of Cache Creek has been officially rescinded, effective Tuesday, July 18th. An evacuation alert remains in effect and an evacuation order may need to be reissued if the risk of danger to life and property should warrant it.

Mayor of John Ranta from the Village of Cache Creek has been advised that the risk of danger to life and properties in the area has diminished at this time.

The wildfire continues to pose a threat to the north of Cache Creek, in Electoral Area I, and so an evacuation alert is in effect for the entire Village, as shown on the map below.

Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible if an evacuation order is necessary, however changing conditions may result in the need to evacuate quickly.

(Original Story July 17th @ 3 p.m.) – Residents of the Village of Cache Creek have been given the okay to return to their homes, although they will continue to be on Evacuation Alert.

Cache Creek was evacuated on Friday, July 7th, due to the threat posed to the community by the Ashcroft Wildfire.

The threat has decreased enough that residents of the community will be able to return to their homes by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18th.

Cache Creek will still be under an evacuation alert, and returning residents are being advised that they should be prepared to leave again with limited notice due to the unpredictability of changing conditions.

Properties outside of the Village of Cache Creek boundaries continue to be assessed to determine what additional properties can be removed from the existing evacuation orders in place.

A separate notice for these properties will be issued once areas are determined to be safe.
