A 12-foot tall Frosty the Snowman has disappeared from downtown Vernon and it has nothing to do with warm weather.

For the past eight years, the giant inflatable snowman has sat outside 30th Avenue's Teach and Learn store during the holiday season. 

However, on Thursday, bylaw officers instructed store owner Lynella Henke to take Frosty down.

“Frosty is in the same spot we’ve always had him, but the officers suddenly said that people can't get to the parking metre,” explained Henke. 

“He’s already been there for two weeks as it is and there’s about three feet of space from the metre."

As a result, Henke was told to take down Frosty by Friday morning. 

On its Facebook page, Vernon Teach and Learn explained the situation saying it’s “a sad day when we cannot decorate outside our own business.”

According to City of Vernon spokesperson Christy Poirier, there has been some "miscommunication" with the store owner and the City is now working to get things rectified.

"Unfortunately, Frosty poised a tripping hazard due to the extension cord and there was no permit for him to be on the sidewalk," said Poirier.

"We are working to identify a more appropriate location for him though."

Henke maintains the spot is appropriate and said the neighbouring businesses and the people walking the sidewalk all love the giant snowman.
