The Blackburn REMAX All Wheels Adventure Park may have wheels on the ground by June.
Though funding for the park is limited, the organizers are determined to get the park finalized and moving.
On May 27, the All Wheels Adventure Park will be holding a fundraising ceremony to unveil the future park plans with hopes of raising the necessary money.
“We are going to be raising money for a couple of years. We had about $120,000 committed from REMAX and we have several other sponsors,” says David Mothus, Director of the Blackburn Community Association.
“Our goal is to get sponsors to build bits and pieces of the park.”
The unveiling and fundraising ceremony will take place at the Blackburn Community Association from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be free food, inflatables, face painting, DJ’s and raffles for everyone to enjoy.
Attendees will also get to see the first renderings of what the new all wheels park could look like.
While it will be a fun day, the goal of the unveiling is to raise money for the creation of the park.
According to Mothus, around $400,000 must be raised. As of now, half of the necessary funds have been acquired.
“We plan on selling advertising, corporate sponsorships and we will have a dedication board so people can donate in memory of someone,” said Mothus.
The park will consist of three sections that will all be built at different times. The first portion to be built will be a concrete pad and jumps for a skate park.
“All the pieces will be different than other parks around the city so skaters can have something different,” says Mothus.
Mothus hopes to start building this section of the park by June.
The corresponding pieces of the park will be a pump track for BMX racing as well as a mountain bike skills park.
Mothus and his team are set to take the design proposal to council on May 28. The outcome of the meeting will determine how much funding has been allotted, how much is needed as well as when building can start.
