Over the weekend, four Big White skiers travelled to Canyon Ski Resort in Red Deer for a memorable first stop in a series of ski cross races that will take the athletes across Western Canada.
In the men’s U16 category on Saturday, Big White found the podium twice thanks to gold medal and bronze medal performances out of Ben Hare and Finley Cashin.
On the same day, Shayna Little added to that medal count in the women’s U16 division, earning herself a silver medal.

When the races got going again on Sunday, all three of Saturday’s podium finishers added to their medal count.
Little and Cashin both captured gold medals, while Hare added a silver medal to his haul.
Meanwhile, Emily Veitch represented Big White in the women’s U14 category and managed to snag top-10 finishes on both days.
“There were lots of close races but our kids really stepped up and really battled hard,” said coach Martin Little, who added that he was very proud of his kids.
“For us to go into the heart of Alberta ski cross country and get the results that we did just feels great.”
There are plenty more races on the schedule before Big White hosts the Western Canada Ski Cross Series final between March 27-29.
