(UPDATE: Dec. 31 @ 8:05 am) – As the sun starts to come up on the final day of 2019, we can now say that Big White has seen 32 centimetres of new snow overnight.

That means another 9 cm has fallen in the past 90 minutes.

If you can get up to the mountain for even a couple of hours today, we highly suggest it!

(Original story: Dec. 31 @ 6:45 am) – This isn’t your regular powder alert, it’s an “extreme powder alert.”

A heavy dump of snow has brought, as Michael Jay would say, plenty of “fresh Okanagan champagne powder” to the mountain, 23 centimetres of it to be exact.

That pushes the alpine snow base up to 170 cm on the final day of 2019 and the snow continues to fall at Big White.

In fact, another 10-15 cm of snow is in the forecast for today.

Currently, it’s -5°C and overcast with calm winds and limited visibility.

There’s still 16 lifts and 102 runs open to the public, giving you plenty of terrain to explore on New Year’s Eve.

Another reason to head up to the hill is to catch Team Canada play their final round robin game of the 2019 World Junior Championships.

You can do that at the Moose Lounge in Happy Valley Day Lodge, which has been dubbed ‘Canada House’ for the tournament.

Today, the Canadians take on the host Czechs at 10 am and there will be breakfast available from 9 am until 11 am.

Of course, there’s plenty of New Year’s Eve fun to be had at Big White too.
