  • BC’s bass festivals clean up at North American awards

One of the world’s largest electronic music magazines DJ Mag, showed B.C.’s electronic music scene plenty of love on Wednesday.

The publication’s “Best of North American Awards” saw Shambhala Music Festival and Bass Coast both take home big awards.

Held annually in Salmo, B.C., Shambhala Music Festival won the award for Best North American Festival, beating out hundreds of festivals in the U.S. and Mexico.

“Shambhala Music Festival is beyond thrilled and humbled to have won the award for ‘Best Festival in North America’,” said Shambhala via Instagram.

“For 22 years we’ve worked tirelessly to create something truly unique in the festival scene: a place where our guests can feel like they’re coming home when they arrive.”

Following that award up was Bass Coast winning the Best Boutique Festival category.

The festival based in Merritt, B.C. draws a relatively small 5,000 festival goers to the shores of the Nicola River each year, but has gained a strong reputation as one of the best showcases of underground electronic music in the country.

Both festivals have released their 2019 line ups, which you can check out by clicking here and here
