Motorists in Coquitlam are going to want to think twice before tossing trash out the window. 

The city's mayor Richard Stewart is making headlines this week after posting a warning on Facebook to potential litterbugs in his city.

“To the driver of the white Acura RDX…who threw their Taco Bell drive-thru garbage out the window onto Lougheed Highway at Chilko, I’ve got your garbage,” wrote Stewart.

“I will drop off your garbage and your full license plate number with Bylaw Enforcement; you can pick it up there, or they can deliver it to your home address (though they might have some paperwork for you.)"

According to the mayor, litter costs the city hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, something local lawmakers have tried to discourage with hefty fines. 

Those caught littering on public property in Coquitlam are now subject to between $400 and $500 in potential fines.
