  • BC Liquor Stores accepting donations for wildfire relief

If you’re stopping by a BC Liquor Store over the next few days, you can do your part to help support those impacted by the B.C. wildfires.

BC Liquor Stores across the province are now accepting donations at the till in increments of $2, $5 or multiples thereof.

All the proceeds are going directly to the Red Cross to help with immediate needs for those affected, like providing evacuees with shelter, food and water.

“"The generosity and compassion shown by our customers and employees during times of crisis is something we are incredibly proud of – it is the foundation of our partnership with the Red Cross,” said the general manager and CEO of the Liquor Distrubtion Branch, Blain Lawson. “Our thoughts are with all British Columbians, and their family and friends, who are impacted by the current wildfire situation."

With approximately 220 wildfires burning across the province, there have been around 10,000 people evacuated and many more alerts issued.

The extended weather forecast is calling for continued hot, dry weather, with risks of thunderstorms in many parts of the province.

BC Liquor Stores’ customers and employees have supported Red Cross disaster relief for humanitarian crises, both home and abroad, for nearly 15 years.

The first time stores collected donations was in 2003 when B.C., especially the Okanagan Valley, was ravaged by wildfires.
