The few weeks leading up to and following Christmas are the most popular travel dates for those moving in-between the Island and the Mainland.
To meet the demand, the organization has added 128 total sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay from Dec. 17 to Jan. 3, as well as 33 extra sailings from Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo between Dec. 19 and 28, and six extra sailings added from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast form Dec. 23-27. BC Ferries also has plans to add a few sailings between Tsawwassen and the Gulf Islands this month.
The organization is also encouraging travellers to book their sailings in advance if possible, in order to avoid long waits at the terminal. Additionally, customers are reminded to arrive early for their scheduled departures, as the added passenger load may make for a slower boarding process.
