Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 71 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, marking the largest single day jump in cases since March 28. 

Three more people have died of the virus, bringing BC's death toll to 90. 

All three deaths were linked to long-term care homes.

As of Wednesday, BC has 103 people in hospital, down six from from Tuesday, including 46 in intensive care, also down six from Tuesday.

No new cases have been recorded in connection with an outbreak of the virus at an East Vancouver poultry processing plant, where 28 employees have tested positive.

Henry also reported that the outbreak at Mission Institution continues to spread, with 77 cases now confirmed and five inmates in hospital.

On Wednesday morning, the federal government announced a $9-billion Canada Emergency Student Benefit to help post-secondary students who won't be able to work this summer.
