  • Avalanche control work planned for a section of Hwy 3

Motorists are being advised of a planned closure on a section of Highway 3 Monday afternoon.

Highway 3 will be closed through the Kootenay Pass to allow for avalanche control work.

The closure will stretch 18 kilometres between the highway’s west and east avalanche gates.

DriveBC's highway cameras in the area show a significant amount of snow at the Kootenay Pass rest area.

The closure is set to begin at 2 pm and will end around 4 pm.

An alternate route will be in place from Nelson to Creston via Highway 3A and the Kootenay Lake Ferry.

DriveBC says that will add about two and a half hours of travel time, however.
