With the extreme fire conditions worsening in the province, some international assistance is being utilized to combat the Wildfire situation in B.C.

More details are known about the arrival of the international assistance B.C. will be receiving for fire fighting efforts.

The Mexican fire personnel due to arrive are being brought in through an agreement between the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC), which is based out of Winnipeg, and the Mexican government.

The cost associated with the 108 fire personnel joining firefighters in B.C. will come out of the province’s budget for suppression efforts, currently estimated at $195.9 million.

The team from Mexico is comprised of five 20 person crews, with individual supervisors, as well as three liaison officers.

Kevin Skrepnick of BC Wildfire Services says that the tentative plan for their arrival will be to send them to the Cariboo region to join efforts there once they are fully trained.

Skrepnick says that they “welcome the assistance” that Mexico, as well as the 27 firefighters from the U.S., will be bringing.
