Internet users are best to exercise caution when believing anything they come across while surfing the web, but on April Fool’s day, nothing is to be trusted.
Several popular companies got in on the act this year, with everyone from WestJet to Cactus Club spoofing their followers with online pranks.
Here are the some of NowMedia's favourite of the hijinks pulled on April Fools:
Cactus Club Cafe: Club Cactus
Popular restaurant Cactus Club took to Instagram to announce its plans to build Vancouver’s first stand-alone floating restaurant off the shores of Stanley Park. Commenters appeared to believe the announcement, likely due to the ultra-realistic rendering, until Cactus Club admitted to the prank.
"Club Island’s opening date now pushed to 2050. Due to popular demand for an underwater access tunnel, we have gone back to the drawing board on this one."
WestJet Flyre Festival
A spoof on the now infamous Fyre Music festival, which has become the subject of a popular Netflix documentary, WestJet announced its plans to create a music festival. The immersive music experience would be set at 35,000 feet on the airlines 787 Dreamliner.
Like all great stories, this one begins with a flight. Welcome to #FlyreFestival – an immersive music festival at 35,000 feet on our 787 Dreamliner. Will you join us? https://t.co/xcKGfEgjCL pic.twitter.com/Zv4oapXRij
