  • 6 things to do on the first weekend of 2018

If you're like many other people in Kelowna, the weekend for you is all about enjoying the city at your own leisurely pace.

Maybe you’ll head to a new-to-you local restaurant, support our small business owners, or check out a fun community event. No matter what you may be up to, Kelowna always has something fun to do on your days off.

If you want to get out and about this weekend but aren't sure where to start, here is a list of great things we think you should check out on your weekend excursions.

    Art Battle Kelowna

If you love art and stiff competition, this is an event you have to see. Taking place at OK Corral on Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., talented artists will battle it out trying to create their best work in just 20 minutes. The best part is that you’ll have a chance to take home your favourite piece of art at the end of the night.  Click here for tickets.

    Try Yoga

There is no better way to start off a new year then by trying something new. Drop in at any of the wonderful Yoga studios this weekend to stretch it out and recentre, all the while discovering a new healthy hobby or revisiting an old favourite.

    Canoe Sessions

On Saturday bask in the glory of supporting local by heading to Canoe Coffee Roasters at 7 p.m. Enjoy some locally crafted and delicious coffee while being entranced by the beautiful music created by local duo, Tiger Moon. Tickets are available at the door for $10.

    Visit the Farmer’s Market

Winter can bring with it some poor eating habits, but, lucky for us, we have fresh fruit and vegetables year round, thanks to the Indoor Farmers Market. If you haven’t paid a visit yet, Saturday is the day to do it. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Parkinson Rec Centre will be transformed and ready to check off items from your grocery list.

    Olympic Team Send Off

Send off our Canadian athletes ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games this Saturday at Big White. Starting at noon you can take part in a ton of activities including watching the Olympic parade, and seeing Canadian alt-rockers, July Talk, perform at 5:30 p.m. before taking in a dazzling fireworks display at 6:30 p.m.

    Chip the tree!

If you’ve haven’t taken down the Christmas Tree yet, doing it this weekend may be a good idea. If you spent a day picking out the perfect beauty in the forest make sure you give it a proper send-off while supporting a great cause. Head to Peachland Community Centre on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to get your tree chipped for only $5! All proceeds go to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

To see a more comprehensive list of events taking place in our community you can head to our events calendar! If you would like the Now you KNow cruiser to be at your next event, send an email to events@kelownanow.com.
