  • 5 ways to switch up your workout routine

Remember those New Year's resolutions you were so optimistic about way back in January? How are they going for you so far? Have you spent more time outdoors, started to mix in some exercise or achieved those personal goals?

Hate to break it to you, but 2017 is already over halfway over, and it might be time to get back on board with your goals and crush a few of them.

The hardest part of a goal or resolution is sticking to it, especially when it comes to a workout regime. We get busy, never seem to have time to fit it in and sometimes life just happens–and our routine is the first to go.

Let’s face it, it isn’t always easy to go for those daily runs, but workouts can be more than just running and ab crunches, and where better to enjoy the great outdoors and get in a fun workout than right in downtown Kelowna!?

To help you kick start getting back into a routine, we’ve supplied you with five days worth of work out ideas.

    Monday Morning – Spin

Nothing gets your week started like a good workout to make you feel alive. Sweat out the Monday blues early in the morning and try an energetic and high-intensity spin class at Spinco. Conveniently located on Bernard Avenue above Lululemon, it’s the perfect place to set your week up for success.

Tuesday – Evening Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)

The SUP trend is popular for a reason! It’s a great new approach to exercise that involves going to the beach, being in the water and working on your tan–it doesn’t get much better than that. Not only does this type of exercise give you a full body workout, it’s outdoors, on the lake and it’s fun! Improve your balance, engage your legs to stabilize, and utilize your arms, shoulders and back to move around.

Mix in a Tuesday evening paddleboard session using your own board, or rent from Kelowna Beach Rentals on Sunset Drive. There are endless routes to choose from and the best part is, you won’t even feel like you’re exercising because it’s so much fun! Feel like really taking it to the next level? Try SUP yoga, the ultimate balance challenge!

Wednesday – Workout with the November Project

In need of a free, motivating, outdoor workout? The November Project is a humpday necessity. Brought to you by our Headspace columnist and gold medalist for the Best of Kelowna Fitness Trainer Roz Huber, the November Project meets every Wednesday morning at the Sails in downtown Kelowna.

The November Project is a fun, challenging outdoor workout and it’s free! Be prepared for a rain or shine workout that uses all outdoor equipment and body weight, and embrace the group atmosphere to push your limits and work a little bit harder. Go solo or bring a friend and simply show up!

    Thursday – Biking

If you live anywhere near downtown Kelowna you’ll know that biking is a common mode of transportation. But, while you’re thinking about biking as more than just a mode of transportation, think about enjoying it as a fun way to exercise. Downtown Kelowna has plenty of places to explore and enjoy while you’re getting your exercise on!

Bike rentals are available at Lakefront Sports Centre at the Delta Grand or from New Wave Fitness. There are amazing places to ride your bike in Kelowna, but a common favourite is starting from City Park and continuing on to Abbott Street. Among the beaches, lakeviews and bike paths, you’ll hardly feel like you’re exercising and instead, just enjoy the ride!

    Friday – Bootcamp

Set yourself up for a successful and hardworking Friday. You started the work week off with a hard sweat session, now let yourself finish off the week the same way! Try a morning bootcamp at Oranj Fitness. Located on Lawrence Avenue, Oranj offers an array of fitness classes that are challenging, fun and full of a sweat release. Try a Full Body Tabata Bootcamp or Full Body Circuit Bootcamp, there are a ton of choices, but if there’s one thing you’re guaranteed it’s that you’ll have a ton of fun, feel motivated and will have a great start to your Friday and weekend.

Downtown Kelowna is full of easy ways to exercise. Try something new, switch up your routine and keep your body guessing to really enjoy what you’re doing! There are so many ways to embrace a healthy outdoor and indoor lifestyle and to feel good about trying to crush some of your 2017 goals.
