Everyone loves eating delicious food and saving money, and we found some places where you can do both. These 5 spots around town have amazing food at a price point that’s even better: $10 or less!
Sunshine Market
Located in the mission area, this little family-run market makes an incredible daily hot lunch (and dinner!). The specials are always changing, but they’re always fresh, delicious, and a great price. For whatever they’ve prepared that day (whether it be Chinese, Greek, Wings, or something else entirely) you can pick the components you like and build your perfect lunch.
Or, go with their suggested combos like Meatloaf & Fries for $7.99, or Penne Arrabiata for $4.99. For under $5, you can get Curly Fry Poutine, Pizza Bagels, and more. Everything tastes so homemade and comforting, you’ll be “wowed” by the quality and price. It doesn’t hurt that they give excellent portion sizes either!
Mount Royal Bagels
A fresh bagel is one of the finer things in life, and Mount Royal takes their fresh bagels to the next level with their incredible array of toppings. Get your bagel with your favourite cream cheese (they have a huge selection of flavours made in-house) and then load it up with your preferred sandwich toppings for just $5.50.
Whether you’re into a classy Lox bagel, (smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers) a cozy grilled tuna melt or a breakfast bagel with egg, they have it all. If that’s not enough, you can pair your bagel with a bowl of soup or chili too. It’s lunchtime bagel perfection, and it couldn’t be easier on your wallet!
People’s Bistro
Located on Ellis just a few doors down from BNA, People’s is a hidden gem of the downtown food scene. They’ve got loaded sandwiches, pizza by the slice, and delicious warm-out-of-the-oven cookies for dessert. Grab a BLT & Wonton Soup combo for $10, a rice bowl with your choice of protein and veggies for $10, or a freshly made breakfast wrap for just $6.
And that’s just a couple of the awesome dishes they have on their diverse menu! They can also whip you up a great coffee with beans from local roaster Cherry Hill. It’s the perfect spot for a filling, flavourful meal at a great price.
Dosa Crepe Café
An exciting new addition to Kelowna, Dosa Crepe Café combines traditional southern Indian cuisine with classic French crepes. The “dosa” (Indian-style buckwheat crepe) is gluten-free, and vegan, but can be made with a wide range of savoury and sweet toppings.
You can get it with typical Indian flavours like Masala for $7.99, or with Paneer for $8.99, but if you’re feeling something sweeter you can also find enticing flavours like Banana Chocolate or Mango Maple for $4.50. Dosas are sure to become your new favourite, especially for under $10!
Mad Mango
Mad Mango’s prices, huge portion sizes, and delicious flavours play a big role in why so many Kelownians love eating there. You can get your coffee and a 2-egg breakfast for just $7.50. A bowl of their famous Laksa soup is just $8.25. Freshly made Salad Rolls with chicken, shrimp, or veggies, are just $5.50 (and they come with house-made peanut sauce!).
Mad Mango’s big, bold, and bright flavours combined with their incredible prices keeps locals coming back again and again – that, and staff so friendly they treat you like family.
