  • 4 new sports fields approved for Lake Country

The Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) has approved the construction of four new sports fields in Lake Country.

Located on the former site of the Aspen Grove golf course, they will consist of one larger sports field with a track and field track around the perimeter, a standard-sized sports field and two fields reconfigured to standard-sized sports fields.

The Central Okanagan School District requested permission to build the fields, which will sit adjacent to George Elliot Secondary School and the future site of the HS Grenda Middle School.

Students at both schools will share the fields, which will be funded by the School District.

In November, Kelowna-based Maple Reinders Constructors was awarded a tender to build the future $27.4 million Grenda Middle School.

According to the ALC’s report, the historic use of the property as a golf course for 30 years played a big factor in the approval.

An environmental assessment was conducted on the property in 2018.
