Hours after releasing the latest COVID-19 modelling data to the province, BC has received its daily recorded cases update.

The province has 43 new cases for a total of 1,618, and no new recorded fatalities for the first time since March 26. 

According to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, 119 people are in hospital with the disease, down one from Thursday, with 52 people in intensive care, down four from Thursday.

That represents BC's lowest recorded number of acute care COVID-19 patients since March 28.

The total number of people in BC hospitals peaked at 149 on April 2, while ICU patients peaked on April 6 at 72.

As of Friday, 966 have fully recovered.

Earlier in the day, the province released statistics that show BC has so far succeeded in reducing the number of cases and avoided overwhelming the health-care system.

Henry suggested the province could start easing some restrictions next month, but only if the number of new cases keeps falling.
