(Update – 11:20 p.m.): The BC Wildfire Service is having "good success" in dealing with three fires that were discovered west of Kamloops on Thursday. 

According to fire information officer Taylor MacDonald, storms cells were to blame for the fires that sprouted near Kamloops Lake, Eagle Hill, and Hardi Hill.

"So we had some storm cells roll through the fire centre last night and in the afternoon yesterday," said MacDonald. "We had quite a few fires pop up as a result of the lightning there." 

MacDonald explained that the Hardi Hill and Eagle Hill fires are "being held" while the other is "under control."

"We've had some good success on those from status updates." 

A total of 19 personnel, two helicopters, and air tankers responded to the fires. 

(Original – May 30th): BC Wildfire is responding to three new wildfires today, just west of Kamloops near Savona. 

A BC Wildfire Service spokesperson said that the three new blazes are suspected to be lightning caused, and they do have personnel on site. 

Air tankers responded to the fire and completed their objective, and two helicopters and three ground crews are also being shared amongst the three fires. 

A size estimate is only available for the fire located in Painted Bluff Provincial Park. It is estimated at 4.5 hectares. None of the fires are currently threatening any communities. 

Smoke is visible from Highway 1 across from Kamloops Lake. 

BC Wildfire was not able to say at this time if the fires are expected to grow, but they did say that they are experiencing lighting in the region and fires are popping up a a result.
