Please do not start a campfire this weekend.

Despite an unprecedented summer of wildfires, including the Philpott wildfire that evacuated over a 1,000 people last week in Joe Rich, some campers continue to ignore a ban on campfires that remains in place across most of southern  B.C.

According to deputy chief of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service Chris Doyle, 37 tickets have been issued for prohibited or unattended fires in the past week.

Patrols are continuing of open camping areas and will be focused on the Labour Day weekend, when more people celebrate the end of summer in the outdoors.

Being caught around a campfire will result in a $1,150 ticket.
