Matthew Gauthier, a third-year swimmer out of Sylvan Lake, reached a qualifying time in the 50-metre breaststroke at the PSW Winter Invitational meet in White Rock over the weekend. Gauthier swam the distance in a split time of 31.1, earning a bronze medal in the process.

He will now join teammate Ryley McRae in his quest to make the Olympics at the trails from March 30th to April 5th. McRae will swim in the 1500-metre, 800-metre, 400-metre freestyle, and 200-metre butterfly while Gauthier will have just the one race.

McRae also competed at the PSW meet, earning two silver medals in the 400-metre freestyle and the 100-metre butterfly.
