(UPDATE: July 27th @ 2:30 p.m.) – Both of Wednesday's fires grew overnight. 

The Kamloops Fire Information Centre is reporting a growth in fire activity this week due to hot and dry conditions, as well as stronger winds.

Both the fire in Ashcroft and the fire near Lytton that started on Wednesday have grown over night, but seem to slowing in size.

"We're asking to the public to be extra cautious when recreating outside and just remember to dispose of cigarettes properly," said Justine Hunse, fire information officer with BC Wildfire.

The Whitecroft area fire

The Whitecroft area fire was named the Heffley-Louis Creek Road fire.

It grew to 1.1 hectares.

It was discovered on Wednesday near the community of Whitecroft but no structures have been threatened so far.

The fire was caused by lightning.

Air tankers and skimmers were working on the fire on Thursday.

This fire received air support over Wednesday night and hasn't grown since.

The fire near Lytton and Spences Bridge

The fire located 18 kilometres northeast of Lytton has been named the South Spences Bridge Fire.

It was discovered on Wednesday between Lytton and Highway 1.

It's grown to 20 hectares in size and is being held.

It's not expected to grow larger under the current conditions.

Firefighters worked through Wednesday night and more were on site on Thursday.

(Original Story: July 26th @ 3:20 p.m.)- Wednesday's winds were gusting up to 40 km/hr and made for some growth in current fires and two new fires.

Currently, BC Wildfire is responding to a wildfire about 18 kilometres northeast of Lytton and adjacent of HWY 1.

The fire is estimated to be 12 hectares in size.

Due to the fire, the section of HWY 1 was initially closed 12 kilometres west of Spences Bridge but is now open.

While smoke is visible from HWY 1, currently, there is no immediate threat to nearby structures.

This fire has three origin and cause field staff on site, as well as air tankers and ground crews.

A second wildfire started in the Kamloops Fire Centre on Wednesday in Whitecroft, near Sun Peaks.

BC Wildfire is responding to the wildfire that is estimated to be about 0.7 hectares in size and located approximately six kilometres north of Heffley Lake.

One initial attack crew of three fire fighters is on site. It's also been receiving air support from one aircraft and one helicopter.

The fire is located in steep and heavy timber terrain.

Currently no structures are threatened.
