  • 1 of 2 wildfires burning near Lytton is now being held

One of two wildfires burning near Lytton is now classified as being held.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the Nikaia Creek Wildfire, which was discovered just across the Fraser River from Lytton, is being held at 5.73 hectares.

That means the fire is expected to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.

An evacuation order issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) for two properties remains in effect as of Wednesday morning.

The evacuation alert issued by the Lytton First Nation also remains in effect.

Meanwhile, the Izman Creek wildfire is still burning out of control.

It is burning off Highway 12 north of Lytton.

In an update late Tuesday night, the BCWS said the fire was still estimated at 25 hectares.

It is suspected to be human caused.

"This wildfire is displaying Rank 2 and Rank 3 fire behaviour meaning a surface fire with visible, open flame, infrequent candling and slow to moderate rate of spread," said BCWS in its Tuesday evening update.

The highway remains closed in both directions.

Nine properties remain under an evacuation alert, which was issued by the TNRD.

Another three properties remain under evacuation order.

On Wednesday morning, the Lytton First Nation issued evacuation alerts for Spintlum Flats 3, Lytton 3A & Lytton 32 due to the fire.
