Rick de Jong has announced he will be seeking re-election to West Kelowna City Council in October.

After three terms, de Jong says there is still a lot to be accomplished for the city and he hopes to stay on board to see several city projects come to fruition.

A few of those capital projects include the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, a new community fire hall, updating the Official Community Plan and the completion of the new city hall.

“These key initiatives are at various stages of completion and it is important that council and city staff continue to work together to get them done,” states de Jong.

“Moving forward together, to build this community in a fiscally responsible manner, I believe that there are four major areas in need of ongoing focus.”

In a statement, de Jong says that by focusing on fire rescue services, city council is investing in community safety.

Additionally, he adds that focusing on community policing can “lead to safer streets and neighbourhoods.”

The third area de Jong wants city council to focus on is ensuring the city has adequate core infrastructure such as water connections, sidewalks, biking paths and road upgrades

“By putting focus on these priorities we will attract families to our community,” explains de Jong.

Finally, he believes that city council needs to continue focusing on establishing community amenities that will ensure that West Kelowna remains a beautiful community to call home.
