  • BC Liberals Have Delivered for Kamloops

The Kamloops region is a burgeoning area with diverse needs and an ever-growing population. When the former BC Liberal government was in office, Kamloops and the surrounding region saw over $1 billion worth of investment in the last six years of the B.C. Liberal Government alone.

Peter Milobar and Todd Stone have always advocated for the integral investments our community needs. This has included investments in areas such as healthcare, post-secondary education, transportation, community infrastructure, and supportive housing.

We delivered $500 million in improvements to the Royal Inland Hospital, one of two tertiary hospitals in the region. These investments include the now open $80 million Clinical Services Building and the $417 million Patient Care Tower that is presently under construction.

It was the former B.C. Liberal Government who recognized that young people in our region deserved the opportunity to attend a university close to home. Our previous government presided over the transition to full university status for Thompson Rivers University. This brought on a massive expansion in programs and courses, and a huge expansion in infrastructure, including the new Nursing & Population Health Building, new Industrial Training & Technology Centre, and a new House of Learning.

For a region like ours, that is so dependent on highways and transportation infrastructure we have brought forward significant investment. We delivered over $300 million to continue four-laning the Trans-Canada Highway east of Kamloops through to Chase. We developed new passing lanes on Highway 5 north of Kamloops at Vinsulla and Darfield and we made significant transit investments; including 44 new cleaner-burning CNG buses, a new B.C. Transit depot in Kamloops, and a significant increase in transit operating dollars for more conventional and HandyDART transit hours. Additionally, we delivered millions of dollars towards airport expansion projects at YKA.

We have also fought to ensure our community infrastructure is well funded. We delivered millions in infrastructure grants for projects such as the emergency raw water intake in Kamloops, the Black Pines raw water intake, the Chase Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants, the Pritchard community sewer system, and the Savona water system. Our former BC Liberal government put forward $3 million of funding for these projects.

Additionally, we have been focused on working to address the needs of our region when it comes to supportive housing. We have delivered millions for affordable and supportive housing projects such as Lil Michif Optipemisiwak (30 units of aboriginal housing); Bridgeway Manor (24 units for people discharged from hospital that require temporary housing with supports, and 14 units for people 50 years and older with chronic health problems); Maverick Hotel (42 units for the homeless, those at risk of homelessness, and those with mental health challenges); and a range of other affordable housing projects.

We have a track record of delivering for the people in the Kamloops region, and we’re working hard to earn your continued support. On October 24th vote Peter Milobar for Kamloops North Thompson, and Todd Stone for Kamloops South Thompson.
