  • Kelowna Falcons alum selected in the 4th round of the MLB draft

The 2020 MLB draft took place on Wednesday and Thursday and Kelowna Falcons fans will likely recognize at least one of the names that was taken.

Kade Mechals was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the fourth round, 112nd overall on Thursday.

Mechals pitched for the Falcons in 2017 and was nothing short of outstanding during his tenure with the team.

The right-hander finished the summer 4-0 with a 3.30 ERA, striking out 34 batters along the way.

During his Falcons debut on June 18, 2017, he tossed eight shutout innings and struck out five to lead Kelowna to a win over the Yakima Pippins.

He followed that up with a complete game four hitter against the Bend Elks in which he fanned an impressive 11 batters.

While Mechals will report to the White Sox rookie ball affiliate in Montana once the season begins, the Falcons won’t be taking to the field this summer due to COVID-19.

The organization has already started recruiting for next season.
