Dr. Bonnie Henry took to the podium with encouraging news this afternoon, as BC has reported just 12 new cases of COVID-19 since she gave her last update on Saturday.
There were five between Saturday and Sunday, with another seven being added to the total in the last 24 hours.
That brings the total amount of cases in BC to 2,530.
Of those, 267 cases are still active with 37 people in the hospital and seven in critical care.
Here’s how the case numbers have broken down across BC:
- Vancouver Coastal Health: 894 cases
- Fraser Health: 1,253 cases
- Vancouver Island Health: 127 cases
- Interior Health: 194 cases
- Northern Health: 62 cases
There have been four new deaths since Saturday’s briefing, all of which were in long-term care at Langley Lodge, and both Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix addressed the new deaths.
“Our condolences go to their families and their care teams,” said Henry.
Henry also announced today that there were no new community outbreaks and there remains 16 active outbreaks in our healthcare system, 14 in long-term assisted living and two in acute care units.
The provincial health officer added that she was encouraged about the fact that BC’s new case numbers are tracking low.
She also said she looks forward to seeing the numbers over the coming days and starting to track how BC’s Restart Plan has affected things at all.
Dix said that the first weekend of eased restrictions in phase two of BC's Restart Plan "went well" and he was encouraged to see it and hear about it from people around BC.
