If all goes to plan, Red Bird Brewing Inc. will go from one of the smaller breweries in town to possibly the biggest.

The brewery has taken over the neighbouring property to its current location on Richter Street and has unveiled a massive expansion plan that would have any craft beer lover drooling.

Red Bird’s new indoor space would seat more than 100 people and have plenty of room to allow the brewery to take its food and drink service to a new level.

A kitchen would be part of the expansion plans, as would a large production area that would see Red Bird finally bring on its own brewmaster and start making its own beer on site.

There would also be a raised stage, giving one of the more popular small music venues in the city the opportunity to put on some bigger and better shows.

While the indoor plans are exciting, they almost pale in comparison to what the brewery, which is always packed during the summer months, has planned for its outdoor space.

Outside, there would be three 10-seat and three 14-seat fire tables with an elevated outdoor stage for more live music.

These six tables would also be right next to a large turf area that would be used for bocce, corn hole and other fun summer games.

And then, there’s the rooftop patio.

Red Bird’s plans also include a seasonal 198-seat rooftop patio, which would be above the new indoor space.

It’d also have its own serving station type bar to alleviate pressure on the staff downstairs during busy summer days.

While the property is currently zoned I4 Industrial, which includes a brewery as an acceptable use, Red Bird will need council to approve a parking variance to make this dream a reality.

Based on their projected occupant load, they’d need 49 parking stalls, which they’ve planned for with 80 bike spots, six vehicle spots and one handicap spots.

Their proposal to council states that most of their customers already travel to the brewery on bike or foot and they don’t see that changing with the expansion. 

The low number of vehicle spots matches the amount of spots that nearby breweries and Sandhill Winery provide without any issues.
