  • UPDATE: BC Hwy 1 reopens north of Spences Bridge

(UPDATE: 4:15 pm) – Drive BC is not reporting any closures near Spences Bridge.

The highway appears to have reopened though drivers should proceed with caution.

(Original Story: 9:45 am) – Residents travelling past Lytton should be aware of a closure on BC Hwy 1.

According to Cpl. Mike Halskov, the highway is closed west of Cache Creek and north Spences Bridge due to a "weather event."

"Early this morning around 7 o'clock, there was a weather event that has come through there that has made the highway basically very treacherous for travel," said Halskov. "It has resulted in multiple vehicles spinning out and blocking the highway."

"It's a bit of a mess in there right now, but we're just a cruiser on scene, sanding and salting is underway and if the weather cooperates and everything goes to plan, we'll get the vehicles off the highway and open for travel."

Halskov couldn't speak to when the highway would reopen. NowMedia will update the story when more information is available.
