One man, whose name has not been released, is in police custody after allegedly attempting to rob a business in Vernon’s Fruit Union Plaza with a knife on Monday evening. 

The man reportedly entered the store and confronted two staff members with a knife and demanded money. The pair managed to escape and quickly ran out of the store, prompting the suspect to flee on foot. 

Officers say no one was injured. 

Police were called to the scene shortly after, and thanks to the assistance of witnesses who saw the suspect fleeing, officers were able to arrest him at a nearby residence.

Mounties believe that the 51-year-old male is also responsible for two other robberies which took place at the same business on Oct. 19 and Aug. 27 of this year.

The suspect will appear in Vernon Provincial court to face the recommended charges of robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose for all three incidents.
