  • Saturday Spotlight: Pharm

KelownaNow wants to get to know the hard working, up and coming artists who fill our city with music and we’re almost positive most of you do too!

Our Saturday Spotlight series that will feature a new, local act every other weekend, to better strengthen our scene and get to know the people behind the music.

    Get to Know: Pharm

Having only been a band for a few short months, Pharm is quickly becoming one of the city's fastest-growing acts popularity-wise. This trio of savage and psychedelic goofballs are riddled with energy and mind-bending talent.

Not for the faint of heart, Pharm’s music is all over the place, with erratic time signatures, gruelling vocals, pounding drums and infectious stage presence. In short, if you can see them, you definitely should.

What genre would you categorize Pharm as?

    Agressive Progressive.

Unsurprisingly, the group name Rush and Primus as integral influences, they also thank beer and calculus to their seemingly never-ending stream of inspiration.

    How did Pharm flourish?

We met watching the band Truent lay down some metal mayhem at a local show.

After some reaaaaaal hazy discussions and no small bit of evil plotting, our first jam came to be at Arc House Studios and it just felt like slipping on a glove.

What was your first experience like in the local scene?

On Thursday, June 27th we made our live debut on a mismatched bill. We supported a pop-band in front of an audience of less than 10 and return home with deflated egos.

The next day we were added to a show at Muninn’s Post with less than 24 hours notice. We found our home at Muninn's with an enthusiastic crowd who headbanged to our stinky rhythms the entire set.

It was extremely gratifying after months of preparation to realize people are really down with what we are creating!

How do you feel about the Okanagan music scene?

Everyone in the Okanagan is phak'n sick and more supportive than wearing two training bras simultaneously. Muninn's Post is our favourite venue so far, the support there is unparalleled.

What is your accomplishment are you most proud of thus far?

We've formed a band that makes no compromises and we only play music we would want to hear. An added bonus is that the audience seems to enjoy it as well.

What song(s) do you want to feature?

Our first song "Tear at the Wall." We spent hours and hours spanning weeks and weeks to nail the wonky changes that lurk around every corner in this song.

You can catch the craziness that is Pharm alongside fellow psych-rockers SweetBeast on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Doc Willoughby’s.

Or, you can follow along with them through Facebook to keep up with their wild antics!
