Vernon is under another air quality advisory due to elevated pollution levels.

After the advisory that was issued on Jan. 30 ended after five days, another advisory has been issued.

People in and around Vernon with chronic underlying medical conditions have been advised to avoid strenuous exercise until the warning is lifted.

The Interior Health authority has also explained that staying indoors will help to reduce particulate exposure.

Exposure is a particular concern for infants, the elderly and those with diabetes, lung disease or heart problems.

The current advisory has been triggered by a high level of dust with a diameter of up to a 10 millionth of a metre (PM10).

The average over the last 24 hours in the North Okanagan is 57 micrograms per cubic metres, exceeding provincial air qualities standards.

It has mainly been caused by road traffic stirring up winter traction materials, MECCS explained.
