  • Motorists warned as heavy snowfall hits Rogers Pass

    Rogers Pass along Highway 1 will be a treacherous trek today.

    Nearly 10 centimetres of snow fell along the pass on Monday and the winter conditions kept coming overnight, with webcams showing heavy snowfall.

    </who> Quartz Creek Hwy 1, 40 km west of Golden, near the Quartz Creek bridge, looking east. (elevation: 1080 metres)

    Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Rogers Pass on the TransCanada Highway that will continue through Tuesday.

    Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

    RCMP, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement and other policing agencies can give you a $109 fine for not having the proper winter tires and you can also be prevented from travelling.

    Winter tires must have the M+S logo on them, along with 3.5 millimetre tread.
