Pacific Western Brewing has officially started planting 100,000 seedlings on Crown land to replenish last summer’s Elephant Hill fire.

Over 90 tree planters are attempting to fix 190,000 hectares of damage.

Funding for the project came from PWB and its customers through the Cariboo Cares initiative.

“Our owner Kazuko Komatsu really believes in giving back to the community and reforestation has been one of her ongoing projects. To be able to continue these projects and develop new forests in joint effort with our government on Crown land is good for Cariboo and it is good for BC,” said Kyle Sampson, PWB’s Prince George sales and marketing leader.

A variety of seedlings have been planted including Douglas Fir and Lodge Pole Pine.

“Investing in your own local forests is just the right thing to do,” said George Williamson, Ministry of Forest Lands steward technologist.

“I tell folks that destruction is the first step to rejuvenation. Last summer’s fires were the destruction and now PWB is part of the rejuvenation.”
