BC Wildfire is working in partnership with the Simpcw First Nation on a burn in the Chua Chua area between April 26 and May 14. The exact timing will depend on weather and site conditions.

BC Wildfire says smoke will be visible from the communities of Barriere, Darfield and Little Fort, and from Highway 5 from Barriere to Little Fort.

The burn will reduce wildfire risks in and around community by removing fuels from grass fields near homes. The Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department will assist crews to control and monitor the fire.

Smoke may be present shortly after the burn is ignited, and for several days afterward. It could also affect visibility on Dunn Lake Road, so traffic control measures will be in place, if necessary.

A 35-hectare burn on Crown land 20 kilometres southeast of Ashcroft and about three kilometres northeast of Barnes Lake will take place between April 30 and May 14. Once again, the exact timing will be decided based on weather and site conditions.

Smoke may be visible from Ashcroft and other nearby communities.
