  • The rebirth of Sandra Oh in ‘Killing Eve’

It's been four years since the Ottawa-born, Korean-Canadian actress, Sandra Oh, parted ways with Shonda Rimes' hospital drama, Grey's Anatomy.

Since then, she's been waiting for a role to fall in love with—something she could really sink her teeth into.

And then it came. After 30 years in Hollywood, Oh says Killing Eve is the role she's been waiting for.

Today, Bravo announced it acquired the BBC America series and will air Killing Eve in Canada this summer.

In the new thriller-drama, Oh plays Eve, a bored mid-level MI5 agent in her 40s who becomes intertwined in an intense cat-and-mouse hunt with a trained assassin played by British Actress, Jodie Comer.

The restless spy and polished killer go head-to-head in this dark, quick-witted thriller.

Oh, 46, recently told Vogue, the role of Eve "has taken me 30 years to get."

After decades spent as the supporting actor, it didn't dawn on Oh during her first script read, that she was reading for Eve.

"I am not an easy sell," she told The New York Times back in 2004.

As a person of colour, Oh says she's often chosen for indie films because she checks all the right diversity boxes.

During her 10-season stint on Grey's Anatomy as Cristina Yang, the highly intelligent, unemotional, overly ambitious surgeon was a critical supporting character who helped spotlight the love affair between Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo.

But getting the role of Eve was different. It wasn't about diversity boxes. It was about being the best fit for Eve—not for any other reason.

Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve highlights how more films are working to bend genres, as it strays from spy drama conventions and produces a smart, dark, comedic and high-octane tug-of-war between two women.

In her most recent film, Meditation Park, Oh shines as the daughter of a first-generation Chinese mother who's searching for freedom and identity beyond the confines of family traditions and culture.

Set in Vancouver, Oh's well-known sense of urgency and impatience mixed with tender moments flow throughout the film.

But Canadians will have to wait until the summer to catch a glimpse of Oh's dynamic new role as restless Eve.

In the U.S., BBC America just secured its second season of Killing Eve.

In Canada, Bravo will air the first season of the eight, hour-long episodes this summer, along with The Handmaid's Tale, Colony and Suits.
