  • Alberta couple crowdfunding for Hobbit themed bed and breakfast

Lord of the Rings fans rejoice – you may have the opportunity to sleep in a hillside cottage, just like our favourite Hobbit.

If you’re dying to know what it feels like to live in Bilbo Baggin’s home, you may not have to wonder much longer.

An Alberta couple is crowd-funding in the hopes that serious J.R.R. Tolkien fans will help complete the construction of Bag Inn Burrows, Middle-Earth themed bed-and-breakfast cottages.

Located near Three Hills, Alta, it is being built by Good Nights Entertainment Ltd. which is owned and operated by Daniel and Linda Smith.

In order to make the Inn a reality, they have started a crowdfunding campaign, with the incentive of prizes and special offers for their supporters. They estimate that each burrow will cost $50,000 to build.

They hope to open Bag Inn Burrows with an initial two to three underground burrows in 2018, and then a larger country inn with up to 12 rooms later that year.

“We are building a dream,” reads the Inn’s Facebook page. “Just imagine staying in a warm and cozy burrow with tile floors, rich wood paneling, and barrel ceilings.”

“You look out the round door and windows onto a green pastoral setting and your very own little garden.”

And yes, second breakfast will reportedly be included.
