  • Netflix announces a second season of Making a Murderer

Netflix has announced that it’s very popular show Making a Murderer will return as new episodes are currently in production.

The Netflix show went crazy as people around the world watched the story of murder victim Teresa Halbach and the man sentenced to life in prison with her death Steven Avery. The show was shot in a documentary style and told the back story of Avery and his co-defendant and nephew Brendan Dassey.

According to the show’s producers, the new episodes will take viewers into the next chapter and provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as the emotional toll the process has taken on all involved.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers’ interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold,” said creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos.

The new episodes will offer exclusive access to Avery’s new lawyer Kathleen Zellner and Dassey’s legal team. Season one of Making a Murderer garnered six Emmy Award nominations, including outstanding documentary or non-fiction series.

Avery made national headlines in 2003 when he was released after serving 18 years for a sexual assault he never committed. Two years later, Avery and his then 16-year-old nephew Dassey were charged with killing Halbach, who visited the Avery family salvage yard on the day of her disappearance.

Following an investigation and lengthy trial, both were convicted and sentenced to life terms, but only Dassey is eligible for parole – in 2048.
