  • More improvements coming to Coquihalla Highway

More improvements have been announced for the Coquihalla Highway as an asphalt resurfacing project will begin next month.

Motorists will notice work along Highway 5 between the Nicolum Creek Bridge and Portia Bridge to Box Canyon, as well as between the Ottomite Bridge to the Zopkios break check near the summit.

"Back in May, we announced a major upgrade to the Box Canyon chain-up area on the Coquihalla Highway," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone. "Today, further improvements for this stretch of highway are on the way covering 35 kilometres along three sections of Highway 5."

What the government calls a "highly durable asphalt" will be used to "withstand a high volume of daily traffic and heavy truck traffic on the corridor." The upgraded surface is to help mitigate rutting and cracking over time, the government said.

The work is to take place between July and September.

Motorists are encouraged to check DriveBC for real-time conditions along the highway.
