For the third day in a row, temperature records were broken in the Okanagan as Kelowna reached scorching daytime highs.

According to Environment Canada, Kelowna reached a new record high of 27.9 C on Wednesday, surpassing the old record of 26.7 C which was set in 1942. Kamloops also saw record breaking temperatures with a high of 28.9 C, breaking the old record of 27.8 C set in 1934.

A record was also set in the Osoyoos area as temperatures there reached 29.9 C, surpassing the old record from 1934 of 28.3 C.

The hot spot in the province was Squamish, where the temperature reached 31.5 C, smashing the old record set in 1988 of 22 C. Some relief is on its way as Environment Canada is predicting showers in Kelowna over the weekend. There is also a chance of a thunderstorm on Friday.

Clouds are expected to move into the valley by next week and temperatures will return to normal with daytime highs around 18 C.
