Temperatures are hitting new highs in the Okanagan as spring kicks off in the area.

On Monday, the high in Kelowna reached 26.9 C, beating the over 100-year-old record set at 22.2 C in 1900. Weather data has been collected in the area since the year before that, in 1899.

Continuing throughout the week, more records are likely to be crushed.

For April 19, the all-time high in Kelowna is 19.2 C although the forecast for Tuesday is for 28 C.

1962 was a hot year in the Okanagan as previous records were set that year for Kamloops, Osoyoos and Vernon. In Kamloops, the previous record was beaten Monday by one degree hitting 29.9 C, while in Osoyoos the record was beaten by only half a degree with the high at 27.6 C.

In Vernon, their record from April 18 was 24.4 C, but was busted this year at 26.4 C.
