Organizers of the Merritt Rockin’ River Fest hope the low loonie and moderate gas prices will help with ticket sales this summer.

The festival is still weeks away, but organizers are optimistic that fans, both home and across the border will take advantage of the country music festival.

Merritt Rockin’ River Fest president and founder Kenny Hess expects to see more Canadians and Americans choose Canadian attractions as they factor in the price of gas and the loonie’s value which was sitting at 76 cents as of Monday. 

“With the low loonie, Canadians will be looking for more affordable summer travel spots and Americans inherently recognize how far their dollar goes,” said Hess. “When you consider lower gas prices and realize the festival is the perfect vacation destination for all North American music fans. We are located in one of the most scenic spots in the country, one that is close to Vancouver as well as the U.S. border.”

Hess expects to see a rise in ticket prices thanks to the current economy and talented line up of performers. Artists slated to perform include Sam Hunt, Dean Brody, John Michael Montgomery, and High Valley. Tickets for the event begin at $199 per person for the four day event, and children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. 

The low loonie could also be good news for the Ponderosa Arts and Music Festival. In 2015 organizers were forced to cancel the event due to the Rock Creek wildfire. The cancellation dealt a significant blow to festival founders as they were forced to cancel the festival just days ahead of schedule. The fire threatened the safety of attendees and performers. Organizers will be back for 2016 though, and hope to see even more attendees than ever, and it is entirely possible that more Americans will consider attending thanks to the low loonie.

These lesser known festivals might see ticket sales hit all time highs thanks to the state of the Canadian economy.
