Yesterday Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico with pounding rainfall and dangerously strong winds that destroyed much of the country's infrastructure.
The news is devastating, but it is hard not to marvel at the extreme display of nature's ability to create a storm of this magnitude.
These new photos taken by NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik from America's International Space Station, really put into perspective just how massive Hurricane Maria is.

The new images show the hurricane's huge eye and bursts of convection as it moved through the Atlantic basin, slamming into Puerto Rico and reportedly leaving the entire island without power.
Hurricane Maria is now categorized as a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 115 miles (185 km's) per hour. The storms track at the moment is somewhat unclear, but its winds are currently battering the Dominican Republic after the storm moved offshore from Puerto Rico.
