Meteorologists are now warning that Hurricane Irma may be the biggest storm to ever hit the coast of Florida.

Irma smashed into the Caribbean island of Barbuda Wednesday morning leaving 60% of the population homeless and killing at least 10 people.

The catastrophic storm has yet to lose any power as it barrels towards South East Florida.

To give people a sense of the magnitude of Hurricane Imra, meteorologist Eric Holthaus compared its satellite images to the last Category 5 hurricane to hit the US.

The latest updates on the storm’s path have it only hitting parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas, but the news isn’t good for Florida.

The storm is still recording wind speeds up to 185 mph (300 km/h) and is showing no signs of slowing down.
