The Resiliency Centre for evacuees has moved from McArthur Island to Lansdowne Village, just a few blocks from the emergency reception centre at Sandman Centre.
The resiliency centre opened last week to help evacuees plan their next step. It will be open downtown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week starting today.
While the emergency reception centre answered the immediate needs of evacuees, such as food and lodging, the resiliency centre helps with future needs.
It gives evacuees direct access to insurance providers, the Insurance Bureau of Canada, Service Canada and the Canadian Red Cross. It houses a variety of non-governmental agencies that will be able to provide services for evacuees and they will also have access to emotional support to deal with any trauma.
It is a one-stop shop to deal with everything from pension cheques, to EI claims and mail.
The centre is now located at 211-450 Lansdowne Street.
