Nestled in the majestic Thompson-Okanagan mountains, Sun Peaks Resort transforms into a holiday wonderland during the festive season.
Our family getaway was filled with snow-dusted adventures, cozy moments by the fire, and an endless lineup of activities for all ages. Here’s a look into our unforgettable weekend.

We stayed at the Fireside Lodge, a ski-in, ski-out gem in the heart of the village, and it was the ultimate family-friendly convenience.
Having accommodation located right in the village made it easy to pop back for much-needed breaks, quick snacks, or to recharge before diving back into the fun.
The rustic yet modern rooms felt like a warm embrace after a day on the slopes. The private hot tub was a highlight—sinking into the steaming water while watching the snow gently fall was nothing short of magical for our tired muscles.
The lodge’s fully equipped kitchens also made it simple to whip up meals for the kids, adding to the ease and comfort of our stay.

Friday evening kicked off with the Plaza Christmas Tree Light-Up, where festive music and twinkling lights set the vibe.
The kids were enchanted by the live carolers and roasted marshmallows by the outdoor fire pits. It was the perfect introduction to Sun Peaks’ vibrant holiday spirit.

Saturday morning started with breakfast delivered from Ohana Deli Market. Their fresh, locally sourced ingredients made for a delicious and energizing start, and the convenience of having it delivered straight to our accommodation—or even pre-stocked in the fridge before we arrived—was a game changer.
It saved us precious time we could spend on the slopes, ensuring we were fueled up and ready for the day’s adventures.

The kids attended ski and snowboard school options with private lessons that focused on teaching proper skills, fostering confidence, and cultivating a love for the sport.
The instructors are patient, knowledgeable, and really made an effort to connect with my kids. It’s so fun to drop them off and come back in a few hours and see how far they’ve improved.

Jake opted for a guided mountain tour, which provided an amazing opportunity to explore the resort’s expansive terrain with the expertise of a local, volunteer guide.
This unique (free) option not only showcases the best trails and scenic views but also offers insightful tips for navigating the mountain like a pro and providing you with company if you’re skiing or snowboarding alone for the day.

The afternoon was packed with activities: a holiday scavenger hunt, hot chocolate stations, carolers, and pictures with Santa.
The kids couldn’t get enough of Tube Time, their laughter echoing through the crisp mountain air. Meanwhile, the artisan market showcased local crafts and gifts—a great spot for finding unique holiday treasures.

Dinner at Cahilty Creek Kitchen capped off the day with hearty comfort food in a welcoming atmosphere.
From the perfectly seasoned pasta dishes to their famous ribs, there was something to satisfy every craving. We highly recommend the Honey Sriracha Brussel Sprouts and Kang Phet Curry.

Sunday morning brought us to Vertical Café, a family-owned gem that is a must-visit at Sun Peaks. This café is known for its commitment to sourcing local ingredients and catering to various dietary needs—whether vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free.
Their cinnamon buns, however, are the ultimate indulgence, with layers of gooey, sweet perfection. It’s likely the owner himself will hand you your perfect mocha and breakfast sandwich.
If you get the opportunity to meet Rob, you’ll understand who this cafe brings people in by the droves. His heart for community and passion for quality food is unmatched.

While the kids enjoyed one last village adventure of tobogganing, I treated myself to a Pure Forest Spa treatment at the Sun Peaks Spa.
This experience includes dry brushing on your back followed by a sugar back scrub and hot steamy towels. Next is the hot stone massage followed by an advanced radiance facial that includes a 20% lactic acid peel, lip care, and serums.
All of this is done with locally made, natural skincare products.

As we packed up and said goodbye, we reflected on the magic of Sun Peaks. It’s not just a resort; it’s a destination that brings families together, whether you’re exploring snowy trails, cozying up by the fire, or sharing unforgettable meals.
Sun Peaks offers something for everyone, and we can’t wait to return.
