Repairs to the Willow Cale Road Bridge over Haggith Creek are now underway.

The City hopes to reopen the bridge this summer.

Ruskin Construction of Prince George was contracted to install a support structure at the south and of the bridge in order to enable the future use of a steel girder bridge which has been closed since last fall.

The bridge replaced a culvert that has been installed when the Willow Cale Forest Service Road was first built.

An inspection in 2016 showed that the culvert was failing and single-lane traffic was implemented.

Construction of replacement crossing began in September 2016 and the bridge opened March 30, 2017.

Shortly after the old culvert was removed, unstable ground beneath the foundation was detected which lead to another closure on September 1.

City engineers have been working alongside geotechnical and bridge specialists to develop a permanent solution.

Ruskin Construction is set to drive two steel piles into the ground on the south side of the creek in order to build a brace structure.

After that, the north-side bridge abutment will be inspected and sealed.

The entirety of the work is expected to take three months.

The detour will remain in place until the bridge repair is complete.
