There were 54 regular season games left to be played when the Western Hockey League suspended operations on Thursday, March 12.

Today, after consultation with medical professionals, the league confirmed that those games would not be played.

“Given the ongoing public health developments regarding COVID-19, we deemed it necessary to cancel the remaining games on the 2019-20 WHL regular season schedule,” said Ron Robison, league commissioner.

“We will make every effort possible to conduct the 2020 WHL Playoffs at a later date. We thank WHL fans and partners for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.”

The final regular season standings are based on points percentage, which means the Portland Winterhawks finished with the best record in the league and the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy.

Last week, the CHL released a statement that said the league was still planning on playing the Memorial Cup in Kelowna in late May.
